I really like tortas but tortas ahogadas; those I find irresistible. When I heard about Chago Ahogadas I had to try them. Literally translated tortas ahogadas are "drowned tortas" and they are a typical dish in the Mexican state of Jalisco. The bread itself is first drowned in a tomato sauce, then a spicy sauce to be stuffed with meat; usually pork and then topped with onions. The tomato sauce has the usual ingredients; salt, garlic, tomato and a hint of oregano. However what gives it the unique native Jalisco taste is the very spicy sauce. I work in Santa Ana near a Subway, Mc Donald's, Taco Bell, Popeye's Chicken, etc.. Yes, almost all the fast food restaurants you could think of.
